Goodell's actions speak volumes

Ever since he was marked as the likely successor to Paul Tagliabue as commissioner of the NFL, people have asked me what I thought about Roger Goodell.

My basic description went like this: Smart, communicator, good listener, people skills, proactive but don't be fooled by all those positive vernaculars because Goodell is very competitive, tough and won't back down from a fight if he thinks he's right.

It didn't surprise me that he acted swiftly Monday to suspend Titans defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth for five games after stomping on Cowboys center Andre Gurode's head on Sunday. Sunday night, the commissioner informed everybody in the league office that it would be the first matter of business the next morning.
