Nobody likes to deal with injuries during preseason (or anytime, for that matter). Some teams seem to get through the preseason relatively injury free, while other teams seem to get bitten harder and in worse places. Veterans who get nagging injuries deal with it better than rookies or second-year players, but it's the young players who need the practice time as well as game action in the preseason. Here is a look at how teams in the AFC South have been hit so far.
Jaguars: Jacksonville suffered a semi-major blow this weekend when third-year fullback Greg Jones suffered a torn ACL in his left knee. First-round pick TE Marcedes Lewis already has missed the last two preseason games and is scheduled to miss the final game as well. It is very tough for a rookie to miss most of the preseason and come back and play during the regular season.
Veteran defensive tackle Marcus Stroud and linebacker Mike Peterson also will miss the last preseason game against Atlanta, but they won't have any trouble catching up once they become healthy. Peterson could miss the first regular-season game against Dallas, in which case the Jags probably will move left outside linebacker Daryl Smith over to fill his spot. Free safety Gerald Sensabaugh has missed all three preseason games with a high ankle sprain, and those kind of injuries can linger a lot longer than you'd like.
