Just days after a surprising playoff ride that left his team a single win short of what would have been a very unlikely Stanley Cup victory, Oilers GM Kevin Lowe was forced to deal with a major defection.

Star defenseman Chris Pronger, who played a nearly flawless brand of hockey throughout the playoffs, requested a trade after just one season in Edmonton.
