It's time to clean out my ACC notebook. Here's some of the things I overheard at the beautiful Sawgrass Marriott Resort over the past two days:
Topic: Who should be Virginia Tech's quarterback?
Weighing in: Hokies center Danny McGrath
Danny's take: "Ike Whitaker is very, very green. He doesn't know what he's doing half the time. He's a renegade. He sort of does his own thing. And when he gets in trouble, he tries to get out of it."
My take: McGrath was talking about Whitaker's on-field athleticism and inexperience, but Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer will have to consider Whitaker's off-field transgressions when choosing a successor for Marcus Vick. While Whitaker is explosive and exciting and could be a future star, expect Beamer to tab safe, pocket-passing sophomore Sean Glennon for the opener -- and to do it at the end of the first week of camp.
