I was there in San Diego. I have been in Fenway and watched adults stand behind kids and scream obscenities at Derek Jeter, of all people. I was in Three Rivers Stadium when they threw batteries at Dave Parker, and on the bus outside Yankee Stadium when fans smashed in the window of the bus while going after Carlton Fisk, three of them dressed in "Fisk Eats Rice" T-shirts. Barry Bonds was booed. There were signs, none obscene. One syringe was thrown on the dirt as Bonds walked in from left field; if Giants owner Peter Magowan hadn't pointed it out to Pedro Gomez, it would have been noticed by a hundred or so people and would not have been part of the telecast.
