SAN DIEGO -- With 12 seconds left and his team down by three, Marquette head coach Tom Crean called the perfect play and his team executed it to perfection.

Steve Novak, the school's all-time leader in 3-point shooting, was left wide open in the corner, the ball comfortably in his hands, with a chance to tie Thursday's NCAA Tournament opener against Alabama.

"I was surprised how open he was," Crean said.
