A team including Robert Castellini is expected to take control of the Cincinnati Reds with Major League Baseball's approval today. Castellini and his brothers, Tom and Joe Williams, will control 75 percent of the Reds franchise, which is worth $120 million, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Loyal reader David Hallstrom points out that former Reds owner Carl Lindner, a financier who used to control Chiquita Brands, sold his stake in Castellini's company, Cincinnati's largest produce distribution firm, in December 2002 for a reported $45 million. In 1998, Hamilton County paid $36.5 million for Castellini's 24-acre riverfront property where Paul Brown Stadium, the home of the Cincinnati Bengals, now stands.

For The Glory
The Disney movie "Glory Road," the story surrounding the 1966 Texas Western NCAA championship basketball team, has increased interest in memorabilia of the team and the event. Last week, I reported that the jersey being auctioned as a game-used jersey of guard Willie Worsley (from the title game) was in fact not Worsley's jersey. But replica jerseys of Bobby Joe Hill, produced by Majestic, have hit eBay. Other items currently being peddled on the online auction site include a team-autographed Sports Illustrated, a program from the game and a ticket stub from the game.
