Nutmeg State basketball ... it's fantastic!
FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Tiny little Connecticut is big enough to hold the Worldwide Leader in Sports, the Stamford-based headquarters of World Wrestling Entertainment and seven Division I basketball programs. But most probably wouldn't consider the Nutmeg State to be a hotbed of diverse hoops action considering that Storrs stands as one of the world's capitals of college basketball.
Granted, the other six Connecticut teams make up a very Little East as compared to UConn's big one. Central Connecticut State, helmed by former Jim Calhoun assistant Howie Dickenman, is a constant factor in the Northeast Conference. There's the Ivy League's Yale (a football school if one ever existed) and Hartford of the America East (constantly fighting to amount to more than "the school Vin Baker went to"). Fairfield, playing in the spacious arena in Bridgeport, is always good for a decent showing in the Metro Atlantic.
