Simon to Seattle?

Seattle is extremely thin at defensive tackle and might have to take a run at former Eagles DT Corey Simon, whom became an unrestricted free agent Sunday when Philadelphia removed its franchise tag from him.

The Seahawks released DT Cedric Woodard last week. Run-stopping DT Rashad Moore underwent arthroscopic shoulder surgery last week and has been bothered by shoulder problems for more than a year. Head coach Mike Holmgren appears to have a winning DT combination in the starting lineup, with Marcus Tubbs and Chuck Darby, but there is little behind them. One big option -- end-tackle Antonio Cochran -- was among Monday's cuts, so there isn't much proven talent behind the starters.

Who else might be after Simon? Well, seven teams unofficially checked in Monday morning to gauge his interest, and more teams are expected to call once the Monday waiver wire is published in the early evening.

Simon, 28, is a one-time Pro Bowler with 32 career sacks and is the best impact player available in the market. He planned to report to Eagles camp sometime next week and be ready for the opener but the Eagles decided to let him go and starter first-round choice Mike Patterson instead.
