Time to cut Garrett some slack
Former athletic director, Heisman winner doesn't deserve to have entire legacy soiled

LOS ANGELES -- It is time to cut Mike Garrett some slack.
The former athletic director who lost his job and much of what was once a glistening reputation at USC has taken the brunt of the criticism for the NCAA sanctions that have hit the Trojans so hard.
A good percentage of it has been deserved, but the point is, he has stood in there and taken the blows. He read what people wrote. He heard what boosters were saying. He understands that it was his responsibility, and he accepts that.
