Remembering Loel Schrader

LOS ANGELES -- The twinkle in his eye. That's what everyone should always remember about Loel Schrader.
It was a warm, rich twinkle that never failed to brighten a room, or a practice field or even a tense, crowded press box on deadline.
Schrader, who died Thursday at age 87 after a long battle with pneumonia, was one of those rare people who always made you feel better about things. No matter your mood, spend any time around Loel and you'd be laughing and joking in a matter of minutes.
He loved life. He loved his great family that included a devoted wife, five children and 13 grandchildren. And he loved USC football, sometimes not necessarily in that order.
