Sign of the times

Announcing you'll ink with USC means increased attention on and off the field

The spotlight can be blinding for some high-profile recruits. Just ask USC defensive end commit Kylie Fitts of Redlands (Calif.) East Valley.

Through four games this season, Fitts has registered only two-and-a-half sacks and nine solo tackles. At the same point last year, the four-star defensive end already had seven sacks and was cementing himself as one of the top local prospects.

Yet, as Fitts can attest to, added recruiting attention often leads to increased scrutiny on the field. It's been nothing short of frustrating.
