Outside the plush, new $70 million USC athletic facility named in his honor, there is a bronze statue of iconic coach John McKay in a contemplative pose, with his hand on his chin.
If the statue were updated today, that same hand would be over his eyes.
McKay would be embarrassed not so much by the fact USC lost 21-14 to a quality Stanford team that has been Top-10 caliber for three or four years now.
What Saturday night's loss proved is that USC is no longer the bully of the Pac-12, beating opponents with size and strength. That title now belongs to Stanford.
