LOS ANGELES -- The Trojans' third practice of fall camp was the first to be held in the afternoon, and it was a hot one, with the players in helmets, shoulder pads and shorts. USC head coach Lane Kiffin said the front-line players for the Trojans were able to handle the heat fine, but some of the younger, second-line players did not fare as well.
It was a day for the defense Wednesday, as Kiffin said that unit outplayed the offense. Dion Bailey had an interception off Cody Kessler on a bubble screen attempt. Kiffin also singled out Demetrius Wright as having played well so far in camp, saying Wright has "turned a corner."
Kiffin wasn't done handing out praise. In the battle for the No. 3 receiver spot, he said senior De'Von Flournoy is way ahead right now. George Farmer -- who many expected to get that role -- did not practice again Wednesday with a hamstring issue but is expected to practice Thursday.
