While freshman Marqise Lee was busy on the offensive side of the ball against Oregon on Saturday, scoring a touchdown as well as leading the team in receptions, another freshman, linebacker Hayes Pullard, was having a pretty good game on the defensive side of the ball, leading the Trojans defense in tackles.
Heading into Saturday, the Trojans defense was faced with the challenge of stopping one of the fastest offenses in the country. With many teams failing to contain the Ducks' high-flying offense, the USC defense, led by Pullard, went back to the first fundamental a player learns in football -- tackling.
This was without a doubt Pullard's best game as a Trojan. He ended the game Saturday night with 14 tackles, two sacks and two tackles for loss.
Led by the 14 tackles of redshirt freshman Hayes Pullard, USC was able to limit the big plays in Oregon's running game.
