BOULDER, Colo. -- With Amir Carlisle getting his first touchdown in a Trojans uniform in the fourth quarter Friday against Colorado, as well as Matt Barkley throwing for his USC single-game record sixth touchdown on the pass, let's take a look back at the play that will most likely stick with these two players for years to come.
The Trojans were having success all night with their 80/90 protection. The 80 protection is a gap protection that tells the offensive line to block the left gap as well as telling the running back to block the first defender off his right offensive tackle, which is usually the defensive end.
Three of Barkley's touchdowns in the first half came from this play. One of the touchdowns was to Robert Woods and the other two were to Marqise Lee. Colorado had no answer for the protection, trying different blitzes to catch the Trojans' offensive line off guard. It had no success.
