It was no coincidence that the California Golden Bears elected to stage their homecoming game on a Thursday Night at AT&T Park against the despised USC Trojans.

No matter the playing level, you generally schedule a homecoming game against somebody you think you can beat. Even on a Thursday night on a "neutral field," the nationally-televised game was leading into what the Bears were calling "Homecoming Weekend."

Apparently Jeff Tedford's Bears figured they could emerge victorious no matter the time or place. How wrong he proved to be, as the Trojans won in a convincing 30-9 manner before a near-capacity crowd of 44,043 at AT&T Park.
