When it comes to California high school football, it's tough for a winning streak to generate noise when compared to the 151-game mark set by Concord De La Salle from 1992-2003. But it was also difficult to ignore what Gardena Serra did in the final part of the last decade, authoring a 29-game winning streak on the way to two CIF titles and a state. All told, the Cavaliers posted a 42-2 recrod from 2008-10.

Of course, USC Trojans fans need little reminder of those teams. They were led by a trio of Trojans in Robert Woods, Marqise Lee and George Farmer. With those players gone, Serra took a slight step back in 2011.

An 8-3 season isn't much of a setback for most programs, but with so much recent success at Serra, a first-round playoff ouster didn't sit well with the Cavaliers. But the window of opportunity for opponents to beat Serra might be closing quickly. While the offensive firepower with players such as Woods, Lee and Farmer no longer makes headlines, the Cavaliers will be content to rely on a stout defense in 2012 led by a pair of young standouts in junior linebacker Dwight Williams and junior cornerback Adoree' Jackson.
