LOS ANGELES -- Dozens of top prospects from up and down the West Coast are scheduled to be on the USC campus Sunday for USC's junior day. The Trojans staff is well known for its ability to generate a positive impression during an unofficial visit, but that skill could be tested this weekend, as USC and Lane Kiffin enter Friday still down three coaches from the allowable allotment. If that is still the case on Sunday, it will put plenty of added pressure on the eight coaches, as well as safeties assistant Sammy Knight, to make connections with what will likely be hundreds of attendees.
While USC's junior day doesn't double as a commitment collection ceremony like at some schools, Kiffin has turned the dial up on the day the past two years. After a junior day last March, a father of one of the attendees estimated there were around 300 people -- recruits and parents -- in attendance. This year, it appears the number could reach that point again, if not surpass it.
Most junior days offer coaches a chance to put together a meet and greet with local recruits -- those who can make the quick drive for a one-day trip. This year, the stakes have been raised, as USC's staff will have a chance to make an impression on several out of state recruits.
