The high school season shifts into the second half tonight with several pivotal league games, including a few with significant histories. WeAreSC also checks in with a few junior prospects who have been making noise through the start of the 2011 season.
Orange Lutheran (5-0) vs. Anaheim Servite (4-1): The latest chapter in this rivalry takes place at Cerritos College, as the Lancers look for payback after a lopsided loss last season. This will be a tough test for Orange Lutheran -- led by Florida State tight end commit Christo Kourtzidis and top junior offensive lineman John Lopez -- as Servite is coming off a bye week and will be looking to begin another winning streak after a tough loss to national power Las Vegas Bishop Gorman.
Lakewood (5-1) vs. Long Beach Poly (5-1): It's tough to see this game on the schedule and not think back to the 2009 season, when Jesse Scroggins, now a USC quarterback, led Lakewood to a 21-14 victory over Long Beach Poly, snapping the Jackrabbits' 80-game Moore League winning streak that dated to 1994. But that was a down year for Poly, which has bounced back with a strong season thus far. Veterans Stadium will host a tremendous matchup tonight between Lakewood's receiving duo of Malik Jackson and Darius Powe against Long Beach Poly's loaded defensive secondary, featuring Randall Goforth and David Price.
