While plenty of football players throughout all levels of the sport discuss the importance of being a leader on and off the field, few put that into practice as well or as often as KeiVarae Russell. Russell might be a 6-foot, 175-pound all-purpose tailback to the dozens of college coaches chasing his signature for a national letter of intent, but at Everett (Wash.) Mariner High School, he's simply Mr. President.
Russell was voted student council president as a senior, one year after serving as the junior class president. The decision to become involved in a leadership role at Mariner was one he made as a freshman, and one he does not take lightly.
Mariner head coach John Ondriezek said it's easy to see the importance Russell places on being a leader on and off the field.
