There are several intriguing conference games on the high school slate this weekend, while other programs are looking to close out their non-league schedules on a positive note. We Are SC looks at five interesting local games, as well as big news for a currently committed Trojan and a few tidbits from the past week.
Vista Murrieta (3-0) vs. Encino Crespi (4-0): While the matchup of undefeated teams should be worth watching, the individual battles between Vista Murrieta's tandem of defensive end Jeremy Castro -- who has committed to Washington -- and top junior linebacker Su'a Cravens, going up against Crespi offensive tackle Jordan Simmons will be revealing. Simmons will be challenged by the speed of both players, but he'll have an opportunity to prove why virtually every program in the country is chasing his commitment, including USC. Mission Viejo (3-1) vs. Carson (1-2): Carson's brutal early-season slate continues, as the Colts will take on a Mission Viejo squad coming off a win over Long Beach Poly. The defensive line of the Colts had a tough time competing with Santa Margarita's massive offensive line in the fourth quarter last Friday, and they'll face another test in the Diablos' power running game, featuring USC commitment Jahleel Pinner. On the other side of the ball, it should be a treat to watch USC commitment Darreus Rogers go up against standout junior safety Max Redfield.
