The names of USC linebackers read like a who's who of college football royalty.
Junior Seau, Chris Claiborne, Richard Wood, Keith Rivers, Chip Banks and Jack Del Rio are just some of the names that dot the Trojans history books at the position. In the middle part of the past decade, USC rolled out a linebacker unit that featured three first-round NFL draft picks, a Chuck Bednarik Award winner and a Rose Bowl Defensive MVP as its top-five rotation. But after sending Keith Rivers, Brian Cushing, Clay Matthews Jr., Rey Maualuga and Kaluka Maiava to the NFL, the Trojans' legacy at linebacker has taken a bit of a hit, losing recruiting battles for Manti Te'o and Vontaze Burfict and watching as Jarvis Jones and Frankie Telfort's USC careers ended due to injury.
The Trojans will look to bounce back from those misfortunes in a big way with their 2012 recruiting class. They have taken the first step by locking up arguably the top two linebackers in California, Scott Starr
and Jabari Ruffin.
