AUSTIN, Texas -- The longtime Texas fan heading down the elevator inside Darrell K Royal Texas-Memorial Stadium thought the Longhorns gave a valiant effort in their 38-26 loss to No. 6 Oklahoma State on Saturday.

"I'm as pleased as I can be right now," he said, before uttering a phrase one might expect from a fan of a program as storied as Texas'. "I can't believe I just said that." Taking positives out of a loss isn't something Longhorns fans are used to. But that's what they've been reduced to after their team's second consecutive loss in as many weeks.

This week, unlike last week's 55-17 debauchery against Oklahoma, Texas had several opportunities to turn the game in its favor. On at least three occasions it had near interceptions that were either over-turned or dropped.
