Freshmen make statement
Malcolm Brown, Jaxon Shipley headline a cast of 18 young guns who play in the opener

Eighteen freshmen played Saturday for the Longhorns, a record during the Mack Brown era. Before writing that off as a questionable sign for a program that was extremely questionable last season, consider the type of productivity they put forth in Texas' 34-9 victory over Rice.
Jaxon Shipley scored one touchdown and was an inch away from scoring another. Malcolm Brown only played one half, and rushed for 87 yards. But there were others in the mix who factored in.
