AUSTIN, Texas -- The doors will swing open Tuesday to another semester at Texas, and four new freshmen and two transfers will walk through them -- Connor Brewer, Alex De La Torre, Camhron Hughes, Orlando Thomas, Brandon Moore and Donald Hawkins.
These are the first six representatives of what should be another top-five recruiting class for Texas. Currently the class is ranked No. 2 by ESPNU with two weeks to go until signing day. Of course, in those two weeks, Texas will be after a few more players -- namely wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham and defensive end Mario Edwards Jr. But, at least for now, the Longhorns can be secure in that they have the lynchpin in the 2012 class, Brewer.
Whether he turns out to be the player who can steady the quarterback posistion remains to be seen. That he will be a part of the spring competition, which starts Feb. 23, bodes well for Texas.
