NORMAN, Okla. -- After back-to-back three-loss seasons, Bob Stoops shook things up by firing three assistants. That, combined with a regime change at quarterback, makes this spring perhaps the most intriguing -- and most critical -- of the Stoops era. Below are the 10 biggest storylines of spring practice, which begins Saturday for the Sooners:
1. QB battle: For the first time in six years, the Sooners will have a quarterback derby. Veteran Blake Bell could quash the competition quickly with a dominant spring. But if he sputters operating the base offense or struggles with his accuracy, that could open the door for Trevor Knight or even Kendal Thompson to gain an edge in the contest heading into the fall. Either way, don't expect Stoops to name a starter until after two-a-days, which is what he did with Sam Bradford in 2007.
