NORMAN, Okla. -- Junior college safety Gerald Bowman (Woodland Hills, Calif./Pierce College) doesn't want to look back. He wants to look forward. But it's tough, because it wasn't a lack of skill that left Bowman with no offers when he graduated from Philadelphia Imhotep Charter.
Bowman rushed for more than 1,600 yards as a senior, but he said he grew up in an area where basketball is king. His football numbers got lost in the shuffle, and he said trying to contact programs was very tough. He knows he was good enough to play college football, but nobody knew who he was.
Bowman (6-foot-1, 215 pounds) isn't having that problem anymore, as top schools are now looking to acquire his services. And despite the fact he grew up in the East and is playing on the West Coast, Oklahoma has as good a shot as any program.
