Mattison has transformed defense
Coaching analysis: New defensive coordinator has made suspect unit into solid one

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Greg Robinson was out, and Greg Mattison was in. A Greg for a Greg. But Michigan fans hoped it would be more than that. Mattison had to work with a defense that had been ranked 110th in the country the season before, and for all the work he had done in his career with recruiting, he would be working with Robinson's players.
But really, what could this Greg do in his first year? He had proved himself at Florida and Texas, and with the Baltimore Ravens, just to name a few. And Mattison had been at Michigan before. He knew the program. But with all of that, people were hesitant to raise their expectations too much.
At midseason, here is an analysis of where Michigan's new defensive coordinator stands.
