Defense comes along slowly, surely
Secondary has been pleasant surprise, front four has been mild disappointment

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Michigan knows all about its defensive woes of the past two years. Most points allowed in school history in 2010. Most points allowed per game last year. Yardage allowed by the hundreds in every game.
Cornerbacks who couldn't cover. Linebackers who couldn't play in space. Defensive linemen who couldn't force pressure.
Then Michigan changed coaching staffs, the defense swapped Gregs -- Mattison in, Robinson out -- and the Wolverines' defense went from being inept to competent.
