It seems as though the state of Illinois grows offensive linemen on trees. The Land of Lincoln is stocked with top-flight linemen in the 2013 class, including Lincoln-Way West standout Colin McGovern.
The 6-foot-7, 270-pound mammoth has racked up offers very quickly from the likes of Michigan, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Iowa and West Virginia, among others. With around eight offers already, his coach, Dave Ernst, is not surprised by his early success.
"I've been coaching for 23 years now, I've had some pretty good players in the past, and I've never seen anything like him," Ernst said. "The first time we saw him run we said, 'Oh wow, this kid is an athlete,' then we saw him play, and we knew he was special."
OL Colin McGovern attends the same high school as former Iowa G Eric Steinbach, the Big Ten lineman of the year in 2002. Dave Ernst, who coached both, sees similarities.
