ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Michigan's linebacker play has been noticeably poor the past few seasons. Whether it was personnel or coaching is uncertain, perhaps a little of both. Either way, the linebacker position was a major focus for the new Michigan coaches in recruiting.

James Ross (Orchard Lake, Mich./Saint Mary's Prep) is a big-time in-state prospect and the kind of kid that Brady Hoke will try to hang his hat on from here on out. Ranked nationally as the No. 7 linebacker, Ross has offers from Michigan State, Nebraska, Ohio State, Penn State and USC, among others.
