LSU baseball team misses Omaha for third season in a row

BATON ROUGE, La. -- LSU baseball fans found plenty of salt for their wounds this past weekend during the opening of the College World Series.
After a spirited super regional saw the Tigers get outplayed in nearly every facet by Stony Brook, the baseball world watched in shock as the Cinderella story Seawolves were dismantled in Omaha. One week after Stony Brook out-hit and out-pitched the SEC champions, the Seawolves were outscored 21-3 in games against UCLA and Florida State. The unceremonious drubbings made them the first casualty of the College World Series.
It might have been cathartic for some to see the Tigers' tormentors dumped out of the postseason. For others it was a sign of how much work is to be done to deliver a seventh national championship in Baton Rouge. Two weekends ago the Seawolves looked like national-title contenders when they took two in a row to advance to Omaha -- getting Paul Mainieri's vote in the process.
