ATHENS, Ga. -- Malcolm Mitchell is not the only rising sophomore who envisioned playing both offense and defense when he arrived last year at Georgia.

Todd Kirkland/Icon SMIMalcolm Mitchell is one of the young athletes that will be asked to help in the secondary in 2012.
Because of the attrition in Georgia's secondary, cornerback Damian Swann knows his aspirations to play a Brandon Boykin-like role on offense are on hold.

"We need all hands on deck at DB, so that's going to be my main craft right now," Swann said.

Scouts saw college-level skills to play offense or defense in both Swann and Mitchell -- with most placing them in the "athlete" category as prospects because of their versatility. Both players are dangerous with the ball in their hands. Mitchell proved that last season with an SEC All-Freshman effort at receiver; he was second on the team with 665 yards. And both players are among those competing to return kicks this fall.
