Richt talks playoffs

Mark Richt changed his tune on a college football playoff several years ago, provided that a new postseason format maintained two aspects of the sport that he believes are integral to its success. Georgia's football coach wanted to preserve the importance of the regular season with a reasonably-sized format and he did not want to entirely do away with the bowl structure. "I think that a playoff system's OK if it's not too many teams," Richt said this month at the Peach State Pigskin Preview in Macon, Ga. "I've been saying for a long time I think too many teams in a playoff system would be very difficult for the student-athletes involved, as far as adding games, and I also think it would devalue the regular-season games."
