ATHENS, Ga. -- The skies were blue and cloudless Saturday afternoon at Sanford Stadium, with a bit of a chill in the air.
A few thousand fans occupied the stands, many of whom were wearing red and black. The Redcoat Band played "The Battle Hymn of the Bulldog Nation." Vince Dooley and Mark Richt stood on the sidelines.
It was the perfect setting to pay tribute to Larry Munson, the Georgia Bulldogs' beloved radio announcer who died Nov. 20 at the age of 89 after a 42-year career in which he served as Georgia football's greatest cheerleader.
Some 3,500 of the Bulldog nation gathered Saturday with Vince Dooley, Mark Richt and family members to honor announcing legend Larry Munson.
