ATLANTA -- St. Pius X head coach Paul Standard was not sure what he would get out of the strong safety position last fall. Rarely have 10th-graders been called upon to start during Standard's tenure, although defensive back Geno Smith and linebacker T.J. Holloman were two recent exceptions to the rule. The next sophomore to star for the Golden Lions would be Nick Glass, who made 75 tackles, five sacks, four interceptions and four tackles for loss this past season.
"We are very blessed to have Nick on our team," Standard said. "Nick gave us the ability to have an outstanding player at strong safety, even though he had never played there before. He has great closing speed, he tackles well and he learned a lot each week on the fly. He was a big reason why we only allowed two rushing touchdowns until the 13th game of the year. Next year we might move him at linebacker, or we can keep him at safety. He will also be one of our starting halfbacks."
