Last week saw 90 of the top junior football prospects in the state of Georgia take part in a unique program called Rising Seniors. It is built to provide education and information to young student athletes attempting to play football at the collegiate level. It also is built around an All-Star game that pits the west versus the east, and the player generating the most talk was linebacker Reuben Foster (Lagrange, Ga./Troup County). The 6-foot-2, 235-pound junior already had established himself over the last couple of years among recruiting fans and college coaches alike, with his highlight films including some of the hardest hits ever seen in the Peach State. The all-stars that went up against him in practice soon learned that it was not all hype, and the coaches on both teams all agreed that Foster was a special, rarely seen talent, even in a talented hotbed such as Georgia.
Foster camped at Alabama, Auburn and Georgia last summer, and seriously contemplated each program before making a commitment to the Crimson Tide. Since then, the 2013 prospect has continued to hear from the Bulldogs, and he has a close friend trying to help lure him to Athens in safety Tray Matthews (Newnan, Ga./Newnan), another Rising Seniors participant who is committed to the University of Georgia.
