DAWSONVILLE, Ga. -- The frustration in the voice of Kent Turene comes through almost immediately. The soft-spoken linebacker had planned to enroll at the University of Georgia in June. Instead he wound up at The Atlanta Sports Academy, a prep school 70 miles away from Athens.
"It has been like a roller coaster to me," Turene said Tuesday before practice.
"He is a little disappointed because he is not at a D1 school due to a situation that is beyond his control," coach Damon Dawson said. "Kent was flagged by the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse for an abnormally high ACT score given his core GPA. Even when he took the ACT a second time and got a similar score to what he got the first time, he was still flagged."
LB prospect Kent Turene is enrolled in prep school and eagerly awaiting getting on campus in Athens like he intended a year ago.
