UF recruiting gets a boost from alumni coaching in state high schools

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida coach Will Muschamp knows he can, at any time, pick up the phone and get a detailed and honest evaluation of any recruit in the state of Florida.
Panhandle. Northeast Florida. Central Florida. South Florida. The Bay area. Muschamp has the entire state covered. He has people he trusts everywhere. And the reason he trusts them is because they all, at one time or another, wore orange and blue.
There are at least 15 former UF football players working as head or assistant coaches at the high school level in Florida. Muschamp said having that network of Gators alumni is an advantage he exploits -- and not only because he's recruiting some of their players. It's his own version of insider trading -- although there's nothing illegal about it.
