GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida has sent quite a list of defensive backs to the NFL through the past 11 seasons.
Since 2002, the Gators have had 12 defensive backs drafted -- not including Janoris Jenkins, who was dismissed from the team and was drafted out of North Alabama -- and at least one more will be selected in this April's draft.
Six of those 12 were cornerbacks, including two taken in the first round: Lito Sheppard in 2002 and Joe Haden in 2007. Additionally, Jenkins was a first-round talent who dropped to the second round because of his off-field issues.
The Gators' hopes are high for incoming true freshman Vernon Hargreaves III. Florida has produced many NFL defensive backs in recent years, and Hargreaves' talent could surpass them all.
