REDONDO BEACH, Calif. -- The Michigan Wolverines football program doesn't lack for star power. Heisman Trophy winners, Super Bowl MVPs and a president of the United States all have donned the maize and blue. But on the present-day Mount Rushmore of Wolverines football -- with spots reserved for coach Brady Hoke and standout quarterback Denard Robinson -- room might need to be made for someone who hasn't yet stepped on campus.
With so much attention paid to recruiting and the potential next era of college football's elite, Shane Morris (Warren, Mich./De La Salle), who committed to the Wolverines in May of his sophomore year, is already considered one of the more recognizable Michigan stars. It's the result of a perfect storm of passionate fans and a recruit who is very comfortable living in the public eye.
Plenty of football players, and quarterbacks specifically, have taken to Twitter to connect with fans and friends. Morris is already closing in on 14,000 followers on the social networking site and is regarded as one of the most visible high school stars in the nation. Due to his early commitment, strong personality and undeniable physical skills, Morris is already a household name in Ann Arbor and has yet to take a single snap as a high school senior.
