Several recruits stand by Penn State

Several members of Penn State's 16-player recruiting class were shocked by the news that broke this past weekend about a former football coach, but that doesn't mean they are giving up on the Nittany Lions.

Former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky was charged with 40 criminal counts stemming from numerous alleged sexual assaults of boys over a 15-year period. Penn State athletic director Tim Curley and Gary Schultz, vice president for finance and business, were both charged with perjury and failing to report what they knew about Sandusky's behavior to authorities, and both men stepped down late Sunday after an emergency meeting of the university's board of trustees. Resignations of famed football coach Joe Paterno and university president Graham Spanier weren't discussed at the meeting, which was arranged Sunday and lasted two hours, university spokesman Bill Mahon said.

Windsor (Colo.) High School four-star OT Joey O'Connor, one of two ESPNU 150 prospects committed to Penn State, was sitting at home Saturday watching college football when he saw Penn State's name scroll across the ESPN Bottom Line. He didn't like the news that would soon follow, but that isn't affecting his commitment to the Nittany Lions.
