1. Cornwell in command
By the end of the two days of competition at the regional Elite 11 Quarterback Camp and Nike Football Training Camp in Dallas, Norman (Okla.) North quarterback David Cornwell earned the nickname "Roethlisberger" from coaches.
It's easy to see why.
Cornwell is a 6-foot-5, 235-pound pocket passer who has a frame resembling that of Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger, and his game is pretty big, too.
Cornwell, an ESPN Watch List member, is entertaining double-digit offers and looking hard at schools such as Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, Michigan and Oklahoma State.
After a strong performance at Saturday's Elite 11, he cemented his stock as one of the nation's best quarterbacks in the 2014 class by earning MVP honors at Sunday's Nike Camp and receiving an invitation to The Opening this summer.
Throughout the weekend, he was firing darts all over the field. Camp coaches were impressed with his poise in the pocket, footwork, accuracy and arm strength. Combine all of that with a noticeably larger frame -- he said he was 215 pounds last season -- and you can understand why the Roethlisberger comparisons were being made.
Elite 11 coach Trent Dilfer said that after film review from the camp, Cornwell "stood out as the best in the bunch," and a strong showing on Sunday made the MVP honor and invitations no-brainers.
