Every year some players emerge during the spring to land offers from top programs. Here are just a few of this year's spring surprises.
DeMarcus Ayers (Lancaster, Texas/Lancaster)
On May 1, Ayers had offers from North Texas and Navy. In a three-week stretch, Ayers has gone from two offers to 13. A 5-foot-11, 165-pound athlete, Ayers now has offers from Washington State, Illinois, Tulsa, Wake Forest and Colorado State, and he's garnering interest from Oregon, Oklahoma State, Missouri and Washington, among others. Projected to be a college cornerback, Ayers did a lot of his damage on the offensive end as a receiver and Wildcat quarterback. He caught 21 passes for 365 yards and six touchdowns. He also rushed for 445 yards and five touchdowns and averaged more than 10 yards per carry.
