Army Bowl notebook Day 1

1/3/2012

SAN ANTONIO -- Cyler Miles (Denver/Mullen) doesn't have the reputation of being a controversial player, but he's been taught not to mince words, and he's never been one not to be as open and honest as possible.

So when Miles, a four-star player and Washington commit, answers questions early about those who consider him an athlete and not a quarterback, he says what he feels. Fortunately for Miles, he was able to silence critics by putting together a spectacular senior season, earning all-state honors and performing well (217 passing yards, two touchdowns) in an ESPN-televised game against Cherokee Trail (Aurora, Colo.).

"A lot of African-American quarterbacks go through that. That's just being real," Miles said, referring to holding the "athlete" tag. "I think it's just a part of going through the process, but I try not to worry about that."
