The domino effect
The decision of a top QB will have a lasting impact on the rest of the class
ESPN Junior 300: Wealth of West Coast QBs
Quarterback recruiting unfolds in a different way than any other spot on the field. For the most part, it is one quarterback per program per class, which puts added pressure on quarterbacks with offers to make early decisions, "guaranteeing" themselves a spot in that class. What can unfold is a domino effect in which one highly recruited QB makes a selection and others down the line follow suit.
In the 2015 class, a number of the top signal-callers remain uncommitted, and with so many of them in the West, the domino effect has a chance to resonate across the country. From Josh Rosen leading the way for the pocket-passers to Jarrett Stidham for dual threats, here's a look at how the top quarterbacks could affect each other's commitments.
Top five pocket-passers
Josh Rosen (Bellflower, Calif./St. John Bosco)
ESPN Junior 300 rank: 16
Schools considering: Cal, Stanford, UCLA, USC
What will impact his decision: Rosen's decision has already been somewhat impacted by the fact that Stanford extended an early offer to fellow Southern California quarterback Ricky Town (Ventura, Calif./St. Bonaventure) just before Town committed to Alabama. Before that, Rosen seemed to have eyes only for the Cardinal, but the fact that Stanford has still yet to offer has forced Rosen to take a long look at several other in-state schools. Cal took an early lead but is being chased by UCLA and USC.
How his decision will impact others: Rosen's decision will carry plenty of weight, both on schools and fellow recruits. Cal and UCLA have already offered other Southern California quarterbacks, though Rosen is the top target. Once Rosen makes his decision, the heat will turn up, as UCLA must take a quarterback in the 2015 class. The quarterback Rosen could help the most with a decision is Brady White (Newhall, Calif./Hart), as they possess similar traits and it appears schools are content to wait on White. -- Erik McKinney
