2014 ACC recruiting primer
How each ACC hoops program is shaping up heading into the 2014 cycle
With the new ESPN 100 player rankings out and as the 2014 basketball recruiting cycle picks up heading into the July evaluation periods, here's a look at how each team in the new-look ACC is shaping up in the 2014 recruiting class. Team-by-team recruiting capsules for the Big Ten, Big 12 and Pac-12 are already out, while the SEC (Friday), AAC (next Monday) and Big East (next Tuesday) will be coming in subsequent days.
Note: Teams are as of conference alignment for the 2013-14 season.
Who they have: No 2014 recruits so far.
Who they want: The Eagles are looking to bring in the best available player and more size to help bolster their frontcourt. Small forward Marial Shayok, power forward Reid Travis, point guard Kaleb Joseph, power forward Abdul-Malik Abu and center Matt Cimino are high on their list.
Storyline to watch: With only a few scholarships available over the next two years, Steve Donahue and staff have the Eagles duplicating their blueprint for success from Cornell. Through evaluations and emphasizing skill sets, such shooting and passing with a value on basketball IQ, they are now ready to add to an already growing roster.
Bold prediction: In the 2012 class, the Eagles landed Olivier Hanlan, who had an outstanding freshman season and was the 2013 ACC Rookie of the Year. I think, in the 2014 class, they will scoop up Shayok in an attempt to increase the athletic ability on their roster.
Overall recruiting trend: It's been a grinding process for BC as the Eagles look to build on this young roster. They aren't soaring quite yet, but they are climbing.
