Nor Cal Tip Off Classic recap

NEWARK, Calif. -- The fifth-annual Nor Cal Tip Off Classic provided scouts, college coaches and fans a glimpse of the present (Oregon State-bound Langston Morris-Walker) and the future (6-foot-5 sophomore Elliott Smith) of Northern California basketball. In addition, there were a plethora of sleepers and surprise players who should keep college coaches busy this season.

Standout players

Tajai Johnson (Vallejo, Calif./Vallejo)
2012, PG, 6-2, 175 pounds
College: UC Riverside
The slick lefty with an assassin-like approach is a nice get for the Highlanders. Johnson keeps his handle low and has a nice burst to keep defenders off balance. His jump shot is playable (2-of-4 from 3), but he needs to continue to smoothen his release. His strength is getting to the rim and finishing, but he also has the savvy to locate open teammates due to his outstanding vision. At the next level, he'll be able to play both guard positions, but the bottom line is that Johnson is about winning.
