Pac-12 early signing period grades
With the early signing period over and the class rankings set, here's a team-by-team breakdown of the 2013 early signing period classes in the Pac-12, complete with final grades for all teams.
After a few rebuilding seasons in which NCAA bids were hard to come by, there is evidence pointing to a definite revival in Pac-12 country. Last spring the Pac-12 bagged four NCAA tournament bids, and that number conceivably could grow to seven selections come March because of a deeper talent pool within the conference.
The catalyst to this improvement within the conference must start with Arizona coach Sean Miller and his ability to lure the nation's elite to Tucson. For the second consecutive year the Wildcats lured the No. 1-ranked 2014 player in the west to campus -- that being Stanley Johnson -- after snagging Aaron Gordon in the Class of 2013.
Sean Miller has established the Wildcats program as a recruiting juggernaut, not only in the Pac-12, but nationally. With the addition of Stanley Johnson (Santa Ana, Calif./Mater Dei), ranked No. 9 nationally, Miller will have a multidimensional scorer who is both physically and mentally ready to make an immediate impact as a true freshman. With the likelihood of Aaron Gordon and Brandon Ashley heading to the NBA draft after this season, the Wildcats needed some frontcourt help, and they got a good one in the versatile Craig Victor (Henderson, Nev./Findlay Prep). In the backcourt, Miller targeted Parker Jackson-Cartwright (Los Angeles/Loyola), who at the very least should be a more than capable backup for T.J. McConnell. Despite his size, Jackson-Cartwright has the savvy, skill, and basketball IQ to flourish as a freshman. Finally, to build depth in the backcourt, Miller went the junior college route and snagged an elite guard in the talented Kadeem Allen (Hutchinson CC). In addition, there is still another big fish out there for the Wildcats in Myles Turner (Euless, Texas/Trinity), the No. 2 prospect in the country.
